From Sophie:
The creator of Lord Peter Wimsey was pre-eminent among the stylish and thoughtful women writers of the golden period of detective fiction. She won a scholarship to Somerville College Oxford and graduated with first class honours — but in 1915, when women were not formally awarded degrees.
